Establishes Online Charitable Events Calendar

The Resource Center for Nonprofit Management of the Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) unveiled the online Charitable Events Calendar at its recent open house, an expansion of its activities to serve the local nonprofit community. The centralized community calendar (available online) will increase exposure to the wealth of charitable activities and events open to the community while also helping nonprofit agencies avoid scheduling conflicts and duplication of events.

"Launching this calendar is part of our Technology Works for Nonprofits Initiative, bywhich we are seeking to expand technological resources available to local nonprofit organizations," said Dena Jenson, Vice President and Director of the Resource Center. "The calendar is a great way to promote the many choices potential donors have of contributing to nonprofit causes via a special event."

Nonprofit agencies are able to register as calendar users and then enter their events online. Resource Center staff approves each submission and obtains any necessary backup data within 24 hours. The calendar features events in four categories: meeting/convening; fundraising/gala/special event; donor/volunteer appreciation event; conference/workshop/educational opportunity. The calendar can be found online at http://vccf.org/calendar/calendar.htm.

The Resource Center conducts monthly one-hour orientation sessions to show people how to use the calendar and post events. The next orientation session is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Technology Center at the Ventura County

Community Foundation. Additional orientation sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning in January.

The Ventura County Community Foundation is a family of charitable funds whose combined assets now exceed $100 million, with 2006 grants and pledges of $8.5 million. The Foundation's mission is to promote and enable philanthropy to improve our community and to build long-term capital to benefit Ventura County. The Foundation has recently been confirmed in compliance with national standards by the Council on Foundations, a reflection of the highest peer review across the nation's 700 community foundations.
