The City of Thousand Oaks is committed to cultural programs and senior services. This commitment includes a dedication to Senior Services such as the senior nutrition lunch at the Marquee Café located in the Goebel Senior Adult Center. The City is proud to announce that it has received a $1000 grant from Senior Nutrition Action Council and a donation of $1500 from the Goebel Senior Center Commission. These grants and donations totaling $2500 will be put towards the purchase of a refrigerated salad bar and bar supplies for the cafe. The Senior Nutrition Action Council (SNAC) will be presenting both checks to the City at the Marquee Café on July 25 th at 11:15 a.m.
The Senior Nutrition program offers healthy meals to seniors, while providing them with an opportunity to socialize with other adults in the community. Community volunteers recently renovated the facility resulting in nearly double the daily attendance. With this additional attendance, the desire for special foods has also increased. The salad bar will offer greater menu options for those not interested in a hot lunch and also enhances the variety and nutritional value of the meals. All lunch items, including the contents of the salad bar, are approved by a Registered Dietitian to meet the special dietary needs of seniors.
Senior Nutrition Action Council (SNAC) is a non-profit council which works closely with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) in senior nutrition lunch sites. The organization assists county cities with grants to supplement their fundraising for salad bars. The Goebel Senior Center Commission is a non-profit organization that focuses on raising money to improve the Goebel Senior Adult Center. If you would like to donate to the Senior Nutrition Lunch Program, call SNAC (805) 495-2482 for more information. After months of working on this effort, the City is proud to announce that with the support and contributions of these organizations the senior nutrition lunch program will be able to better serve the growing population of seniors in our community.
