Often when I reminisce about "the good old days" my thoughts take me back to high school, the fun, the camaraderie, the good ole' school spirit. I wish the same thing for my kids. I remember, spirit rallies in the gym or bonfire spirit rallies at night, football, and basketball games with EVERYONE there (and we didn't win a lot), class competitions between Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen, Homecoming parades with all the float building preceding it, dances after the football games, everyone going in jeans and t-shirts. I was shocked, they don't do that anymore! I guess many of us parents remember these days fondly. So we set ourselves on a mission to try to bring more spirit to the high school. Our mission seems to be succeeding.
Our plan, to start with football season and hope it will grow and spread from there. Our first goal was our huge new bulldog tunnel for athletes to enter out onto their various playing fields. Through a lot of hard work, a lot of generous donations by sponsors it arrived and was debuted at the pep rally Friday afternoon, and was a rallying point for the Varsity football team at the game Friday night. The stands roared their approval with shouts, stomps and applause as the team took the field by running through the huge Bulldog's mouth, fog pouring out in front of them like the dog's heated breath. The music blaring over the loudspeakers helped the atmosphere as did the rally music from the Awesome Buena Band! DJ Hectik and Lunatic were on hand to augment the Band. Students painted in Buena Blue and black ran in front if the grandstands after great Buena plays. The stands were full and it appeared that everyone had a great time. Here is hoping that spirit continues to build through out the season and the entire year!
Huge thanks to those that helped make this possible. Football Booster Suzanne Tonoli has been working constantly since the end of last year to find sponsors for the HUGE Bulldog Tunnel. Her committee of Lester Miyasaki, Rhonda Michel and Holly Colman were able to contact some wonderful people willing to help bring spirit to Buena High School and community.
