Saticoy Boys to play at CSUBakersfield

On November 14th, 2007 Stuart Smith and Martin Medina both signed their National Letters of Intent to play Divsion 1 college baseball at California State University of Bakersfield.

Smith and Medina started their baseball careers in 1995 on the same team with the Saticoy Expos in the Pre-Tee Division. They both represented Saticoy Little League All-Star teams from 1995-2005, which had lots of success, beginning in 1996 Bubbling Springs T-Ball Champions, 1997 CBC Junior Division Finalists, 1998 Bubbling Springs Champions and CBC JR Champions, 1999 Minor District 63 Champions, 2000 CBC JR Champions, 2001 Major District 63 and Section 1 Champions, 2002 Major District 63 and Section 1 Champions, 2003 JR District 63 Champions, 2005 Senior District 63 and Section 1 Champions.

In 2002 both Medina and Smith played in Cooperstown, NY but on two different teams and both have attended different high schools. Smith attends Buena while Medina attends St. Bonaventure.

Medina is a 3 time varsity letterman and was voted Rookie of the Year in 2006. In 2007 he was voted Best Defensive Player and Most Valuable Pitcher for St. Bonaventure. He was voted All-County 1st Team Pitcher of the Year and made the 1st Team All-Tri-Valley League Team. St. Bonaventure was Tri-Valley League Champions in 2007.

Smith is a 4-time varsity baseball letterman and a 2-time varsity football letterman. In 2005 he was selected as a Puma Pre-Season All-American. In 2006 he was selected as a Puma Pre-Season All-American and the recipient of the Buena Coach's Award and was selected on the All-Channel League Honorable Mention Team. In 2007 he was selected as an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American and the recipient of the Buena Bulldog Award.

Both Smith and Medina were teammates this Fall on the 2007 St. Louis Cardinals (AAA) Scout Team. They will both be part of the first recruiting class for the 2009 CSUB Roadrunners Division 1 Baseball Team. CSUB, with new head coach Bill Kernen, will be participating in the Independent league the first year then will be part of the Big West Conference in 2010. There are plans already underway to build a brand new baseball stadium on the campus that will also be used by the Texas Rangers single A Minor League team.

Both Smith and Medina will be completing their High School Senior seasons this Spring. From T-Ball to College Ball maybe they can bring the same success to CSUB as they did at Saticoy Litlle League. Go Roadrunners!
