Bedtime for Bonzo!

It really strikes me as amazing how the Republican candidates for President of the United States are constantly invoking the name of Ronald Reagan. They have elevated good ol' Ronnie to the status of a legendary Greek God. It seems they all want to follow in his footsteps or at least as close to his footsteps as they can get.

The truth of the matter is that Reagan may have been, arguably a decent actor, but as a politician and President he was a dismal failure. During his reign as "President Ronnie" the United States became the world's largest debtor nation, after being the largest creditor nation. His fiscal policies led to record federal budget deficits only overshadowed by the Bush policies. His wonderful "trickle down" economic policy concentrated the wealth of our nation to the top 2% of the citizens at the demise of the remaining 98%. Of course who could forget the tax code fix that the Regan team made on the savings and loan industry that cost taxpayers billions of dollars.

Also during the "Regan Years" he supported and equipped such wonderful fascist dictators like Augusto Pinochet in Chile, Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines, and also supported the apartheid regime in South Africa, and illegally funded terrorist death squads in Central America through the CIA by allowing the Central Americans to smuggle drugs to the U.S.

Still today we see daily the results of his closing of hundreds of mental hospitals and homes, with the thousands of homeless people on the streets, many of them mentally disabled.

Yeah boy, Ronnie Reagan was certainly somebody to look up to and model your life after, I think that for those mentally challenged Republican politicians it really is "Bedtime for Bonzo!"
