I just finished reading the article by Star columnist Colleen Cason and was very saddened to read that a local hero, Mr. Genaro Gomez has not only been raising and lowering his flag for years, but this 76 year old Army veteran has also taken on raising the flag at the Roger Jones Community Center in El Rio, and also the Ventura County library, besides his own home, and this man has to either sew up his own American flag until he can afford to buy another one, or wait for a flag to go on sale?
I am ashamed at the stores for not even once offering to give this man a flag period! We have an Army veteran, who volunteered for military duty back in 1950,defended his Country while others probably waited to be drafted, or just did not want to bother.
So fresh out of high school here comes Mr. Gomez and then our beloved Govenor can not even take the time to acknowledge this hero?
I do applaud Ms. Cason for her forwardness about our Governor and reminding him that we are part of his 36 million in his constituency!
God, mother, Country, character and coaching baseball, where does this community hero find the time?
I will be sending Mr. Genaro Gomez a thank you letter, and I also will be telling him, the next time he needs a flag for anything, you can contact the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County, Inc. anytime, we will fill that order for you!
You proudly served, we veterans have to take care of our own, who else is going to?
