RE: Take the Brakes off..
I for one am certainly glad to see that finally the Senate and the House have decided to look out for the welfare of the American Public. You state the lawmakers stopped this latest Bush sellout in a backdoor manner. Backdoor, Sidedoor, Frontdoor, who cares as long as they put a stop to another ploy by the Bush administration to sell our entire country to foreign powers.
You mention the North American Free Trade Agreement, this is possibly one of the most ridiculous items to come out of the Clinton era. It is far from "Free Trade" it is a way for other countries to overload our country with cheap, dangerous, products. Bush says he will veto the transportation bill on grounds of "irresponsible and excessive level of spending," this from a moron who is spending billions of our tax dollars on an illegal war.
You also mention that it does no credit to the U.S. to renege on an accord we "freely" entered into. We must be living in different countries together, as far as I know "we" did not enter into the N.A.F.T.A freely, it was shoved down our throats by the administration that was in power at the time. Tell me do you suppose that the Mexican Government will offer to help pay for the upkeep of our roads and infrastructure that will be additionally damaged by the addition of hundreds of large Mexican trucks that you want to allow to roam our country? I think not! Of course I'm not even going to mention the possibility of what could be smuggled into our country in some of those trucks.
You are certainly wrong in your thoughts on this subject, you should instead be telling people to contact their representatives and insist that the ban be permanent. They could even go a little further and insist that the N.A.F.T.A be repealed.
