West Meets East
Contributed by: Carol Dirner on 9/28/2007

The local Ventura County Channelaire Chorus recently went on a fabulous trip to Japan. The purpose of the visit was to meet and sing with their counterpart Japanese choruses. All of these groups are comprised of women who sing 4-part Barbershop-style a cappella music. Channelaire is both a regionally and internationally medaling chorus under the co-direction of Bobbette Gantz and Judy Ashmore. Judy has been mentoring and coaching Japanese choruses by CD, DVD and e-mail. This was a wonderful opportunity for Judy to meet her students in person, and also put on a show with 4 of the local choruses and her own Channelaire Chorus. Channelaire also performed at the Heian Shrine in Kyoto before an enthusiastic crowd.

If you would like a chance to see these talented women on stage, Channelaire will be doing it's annual show at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center Kavli Theater on October 21, 2007. Also on the show is the 2007 Men's International Chorus Champions, the Westminster Chorus. For information on tickets, visit the chorus website at www.channelaire.org or telephone 805-482-5557.

Are you a woman who loves to sing? Channelaire will be holding open auditions on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007. For further information about membership in the chorus or the audition night, contact Pat Vincent at 805-083-1072 or vincentpr@roadrunner.com .
