CONQUER OBESITY DURING GET ACTIVE AMERICA WEEK
Contributed by: Tea Silvestre on 5/8/2007

Free Workouts at Pierpont Racquet Club offered for Local Residents

It's a fact - Americans are the most overweight population in the world, and many people are looking for a solution. Nearly two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight, and nearly one-third of all Americans are obese. A change is necessary. That's why The Pierpont Racquet Club, along with other members of the nonprofit International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), will open its doors free to the public the week of May 14-20, 2007 as part of the nationwide Get Active America! campaign.

This year marks the fourth year of the campaign, again offering Americans of all ages a "first step" opportunity to begin an exercise program in a safe, supportive environment. During 2006's program, more than 70,000 Americans participated in Get Active America!, taking their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

"Many Americans don't realize that in addition to helping to control weight, physical activity decreases the risk of dying from coronary heart disease and reduces the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension and colon cancer," said Joe Moore, IHRSA President and CEO. "The health club industry is dedicated to helping make exercise fun and accessible to all Americans."

Get Active America! is part of a continuous effort by the health club industry to change the direction of the nation's health. This special Get Active America! week will allow Ventura residents to take exercise classes and use the facilities at Pierpont Racquet Club free of charge. Current Pierpont Racquet Club members will also be invited to bring a friend or family member in for free the week of May 14-20, 2007.

"With obesity on the rise, we are proud to participate in such an encouraging program, and offer free workouts to those interested in beginning, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle," said Thu Huynh, General Manager for the Pierpont Racquet Club.

During Get Active America! Week, guests will receive free access to the Pierpont Racquet Club, its state-of-the-art exercise equipment and an array of exercise classes. Visitors who would like to join the Pierpont Racquet Club during Get Active America! week will benefit from a complimentary MicroFit® fitness assessment as well as a fitness orientation with a PRC fitness trainer. In addition, if the new members play tennis, they will also receive a ½ hour tennis hitting session and orientation with a PRC tennis professional. In addition to the Pierpont Racquet Club, other IHRSA member health clubs nationwide will offer free workouts during Get Active America! week. A complete list of participating health club locations is available at www.getactiveamerica.com.
