PASTA POINT, Maldives, SriLanka (June 1, 2007),
The next event in the World Qualifying Series (WQS) of surfing is set to start this Sunday with locals,
Dane Reynolds and
Nick Rozsa headlining the very first heat of the event. Both surfers will be looking for a good result in this 5 star prime rated event which will earn them valuable points towards qualifying for the 2008 ASP World Tour.
The WQS, a series that has been prone to holding contests in some of the most challenging conditions, has seen one of its best years with some really terrific conditions in places like Hawaii, Scotland and Australia. This contest is shaping up to be one of the best of the year because the Indian Ocean has promised an epic swell with waves as high as 3 meters. The ASP Australasian Tour Manager Glenn Best has witnessed every event in the Maldives and had this to say about the upcoming event.
"It's perfect for us with a full scale live web cast now in preparation to go from day one! Vision, audio, live scores from paradise. The web team will be perfectly set up on the bar deck at Dhonveli Beach and Spa Resort overlooking Pasta Point. Viewers will feel like they are right there on the deck!"
Glenn also had this to say about the upcoming swell "Of course it's just a forecast at this minute but we know how accurate wave forecasting science has become in the past few years, especially for open ocean island locations like the Maldives - Let's bring on the biggest waves yet for this event!"
The SriLankan Airlines Pro is a turning point in this year's tour. A solid result in this contest by any of the current top-ranked WQS surfers could almost guarantee a qualification to the
Dream Tour. The current 3 rd ranking WQS surfer, Dane Reynolds is well aware of this important event and will be looking for the waves that lead him to a podium finish.
Oxnard local, Nick Rozsa, can hold his own with the best of them and will be looking to show his bag of tricks against Reynolds and Sterling Spencer when the contest starts on Sunday morning.
Be sure to show your Ventura locals the support they deserve by watching the live web cast.
SriLanka is 12 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time,so the contest should start at 7:00 or 8:00 pm PST,this Saturday, June 2, 2007.
