The Mens 4.0 Tennis Team from the Ventura Tennis Club recently won the
County and heads to USTA Sectional Competition at Los Caballeros Tennis Club in
Fullerton
in August.
Team Captain Andy Hoerer led the team, comprised of
Nick Adair, Erik Bars, Rich Brandon, Julio Cabral, Bob Carson, Mike Davis, Mark
Dumais, Scott Ford, Chris Goldie, Mike Goldowitz, Randy Guzik, Mark Hancock,
Chuck Holmstrom, Sean Johnson and Carl Koch.
League Tennis, a popular program through the United States Tennis
Association, pits teams against each other in area competition, with the area winner
advancing to face winning teams from other areas.
There are leagues for
different levels of ability, leagues for men, women and combined teams.
Tennis
played on a team basis introduces a spirit of friendly competition and
comraderie into the game.
There are always snacks and refreshments afterward.

In Ventura County, teams come from private clubs and from public courts.
There are home games and away games.
One of the enjoyable things about
league tennis is the chance to travel to and compete at other clubs and parks,
such as North Ranch, Pacific, Pierpont, Spanish Hills, Sunset, the Ojai Athletic
Club and the Westlake Swim and Tennis Club.
The Ventura Tennis Club is based at the public tennis courts at
Camino Real Park
in Ventura.

Interestingly,
although the private clubs are certainly respectable and always competitive, they
don't dominate at present.
Another strong set of teams, for example, hails from
the public courts in
Moorpark
and the public
Oxnard
Tennis Center has been
strong.
