Mike and Bob in Sports Illustrated on Aug. 13, 2007.
Emily Cressy Faces in the Crowd.
Ventura County athletes are in the limelight.
Mike and Bob Bryan, the tennis twins who rock on and off the court, are in a special advertisement feature presented by McDonald's in Time Out.
The Bryans have made plenty of noise with their rackets while they can play tunes too.
Their dad, Wayne, grew up in Hawthorne, Calif., and went to high school with the Beach Boys.
Wayne was the Hawthorne High quarterback and he was "True to his School" just like the Beach Boys
Wayne told me one time how he ended his high school football career getting sacked in the mud at Peabody Stadium in a CIF-Southern Section playoff game against the Santa Barbara Dons.
Kathy Bryan, the mom of the twins, was a standout junior tennis player who played at Wimbledon.
The twins were Australian Open champions earlier this year and will be gunning for the United States Open doubles championship.
When Wayne was the general manager of the Cabrillo Racquet Club, you could count on a rock and roll party on Saturday night during a club tournament. Those on hand remember those snowball dances.
Ventura's Cressy, a recent Buena High graduate, was a star for the Eagles Soccer Club. She won the Golden Boot award at this summer's United States Youth Soccer National Championship as the most outstanding player.
The Kansas-bound soccer player won a gold medal in the 2005 Deaflympics.
The Bryans and Cressy are great examples of athletes who make a difference and deserve cheers.
