On July 3, J. Michael McLane a well-known actor and
director of Shakespeare plays and festivals visited
Pacific high School in Ventura to read from and recite
passages from the beloved bard and other poets.
Mclane was part of the Old Dominion Shalespeare
Society and has performed in Virginia, Washington DC,
and California.
The emphasis, according to Pacific teacher Chip
Fraser, was on bringing shakespeare to life.
"When you see it live, Shakepeare takes on an entirely
different meaning", said Fraser.
The class particularly appreciated McLanes's wit in
describing why people wrote poems and his translation
of some of the Old english, proved valuable in the
classe's receptivity.
Beth ramos, summer school principal was also highly
impressed with McLane and even moreso with the
students involvement.
"Events like these are so stimulating. Our students
benefit from the extra attention and develop a better
sense of the plot and the characters when the stories
are acted out," Ramos remarked.
McLane, who is a businessman from San clemente will
next be directing a segment of a shakespeare Festival
in San diego.
