TubaChristmas Wrap-Up
Contributed by: Cindy Hansen on 12/8/2007

The organizers for Ventura's first TubaChristmas would like to thank all of the participants who shared their Terrific Tuba Talent; Ken Hoffman who conducted with his usual panache; and the City of Ventura & Street Fair committee for the opportunity to share the awesome sounds of the Tuba Choir to our neighbors here in Ventura.
We are proud to present the following Ventura TubaChristmas statistics:
• We had 32 tubas, over half played by students.
• We were fortunate to have all sizes of the tuba family represented, including two double bell euphoniums and an alto tuba; sousaphones, big bells, and baritones.
• Our oldest player was 74 and our youngest was 10.
• The person traveling the farthest came from Carmel, CA.
• We had 5 middle schools, four High schools, one elementary school and a United States Marine represented in our Tuba Choir.
The number of student Tuba players is a testament to the number of Ventura County schools that have music programs. We would especially like to thank the commitment of the music staff of the following schools: Westlake & Oxnard High; Matilija Jr. High, Valley View and Sinoloa Middle schools; and our homegrown programs from Ventura Unified -- Will Rogers Elementary; Cabrillo and Anacapa Middle; and Buena and Ventura High schools.
If you know a child who is fortunate enough to attend one of these schools, thank their teachers, principal, and their school board for making music a priority.
We'll see you again next year.
Merry TubaChristmas and Happy TubaHannukah Ventura!
