CWA wins first place!
Contributed by: Marjie Bartels on 8/14/2007

The California Women for Agriculture, Ventura Chapter, took first place for their display booth in the Agriculture Building at the Fair again this year. They also received a plaque for "Most Educational Booth".

Their theme was "Old Fashioned Fare". The booth featured information on the crops of Ventura County circa 1929, such as sugar beets, lima beans, bees, honey production, walnuts and apricots. The highlight of the booth is a 1928 Model "A"pickup truck. The California Women for Agriculture gratefully acknowledge Mr. Lin Thomas and the students of FillmoreHigh School's Auto Restoration class from the year 2000 for the loan of this historic truck. The vehicle raced in the History Channel's Great Race across America, which is a 3000 mile race. It went from Boston to Sacramento and missed first place in its division by only ELEVEN SECONDS! In its time, this jaunty blue closed cab pick up truck was called the "Flat Back" pick up truck. The students built the pickups from pieces of various old model "A" parts scrounged from farms and ranches in the Fillmore area.

The CWA fair display booth was designed and arranged by club members Nancy Kimball , Beverly Rueckert, Elaine Cavaletto, Arlene Pinkerton, Anita Poirier, Jean Bryan, Kathy Bergeron,Robin Finnerty, Carolyn Alexander, Jeanne Klittich, Donna Voelker, and Pat McCart-Malloy.
