Sign up for Seaside Basketball Tournament

The 10th annual Ventura Seaside Basketball Tournament, sponsored by the East Ventura and Sunrise Optimist clubs of Ventura, is scheduled for April 20-22, and director Dave Erickson of Ventura urges teams to sign up early to insure a spot.

The tournament will be played at Ventura College, Ventura and Buena high schools and several middle school gyms in Ventura.

Last year, the tournament attracted 133 teams, "which has to be one of the largest weekend tournaments in the state," Erickson said.

The tournament has separate grade divisions for boys fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth grades and girls fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth grades in two divisions: A (club and travel teams) and B (school, rec, and all-star). There will be single divisions for boys third and fourth grades, JV and Varsity and Girls third and fourth grades, JV & Varsity.

Reservations are $300 before April 2 and $330 after April 2. The final deadline is April 13, with no exceptions. "We turn away teams every year as divsions fill, so it's best to sign up early," Erickson said.

All proceeds go to local youth programs or to help individuals.
