Fillmore Takes home Silver in National Competition
Contributed by: Diane McCall on 3/29/2007

Fillmore Extreme Cheer (Toxic All-Stars) has been diligently working all season and has just returned from competing at National's All-Star Cheer Competition in Las Vegas. We had 3 teams competing for a National Title; a senior team, a junior team and a dance and Hip/Hop team.

Our senior team won Second Place in our division, out of 16 teams!

The senior team is made up of Ashley Grande, Bailey Pina, Bianca Contreras, Brianna Acosta, Kristina Garcia, Elaine Sevillano, Haley Dollar, Jah-lessa Huerta, Jaime Harder, Marynna Garcia, Natasha Mulinex, Nicki VanDeMheen, Rochelle Castillo, Shalise Beltran, Tara Gascon, Britney Cardona, Caitlin McCall, Desiree Perez, Marissa Padilla and Kaylin Terzian.

The Junior team placed in the top 10 of 17 teams which competed in our division.

The Junior Team is made up of Breanna Berrington, Arianna Acosta, Jordyn Vassar, Sophia Gallardo, Jackelyn Guerra, Marissa Padilla, Desiree Perez, Hannah Vazquez, Nicole Griggs, Niki VanDeMheen, Haley Dollar Kaylin Terzian, Tiffany Becerra and Caitlin McCall.

Our dance team which competed in the Dance and Hip/Hop Division was made up of 14 girls from both squads. We competed against 10 teams whose focus was on and Hip/hop, rather than cheer. We placed modestly within the ranks, but most of all we looked great and had a ton of fun competing!

Fillmore Extreme Cheer has been competing in All-star Cheerleading for 3 years and continues to work hard representing our small town within a sport comprised of many talented youth and teens from all areas of the country. Our participants continue to grow and expand, learning new skills in gymnastics and tumbling as each season goes by. In addition to providing healthy alternatives through physical fitness, our gym teaches children the importance of working together as a team to accomplish a common goal.

Our coaches are Heathor Connor and Kelley Kennedy of Orange County who are currently attending college in Moorpark. Both coaches compete on a cheer squad in Orange County called Orange Crush, a Level 5 team which also competes on the National Circuit. Coach Katie Cook has been a part of our coaching staff since the beginning of the gym and has coached our Super-mini and Mini's teams in prior seasons and continues to support our Junior and Senior Teams. All of our coaches provide our gymnastics and tumbling training with the assistance of Missy Bowen and Richard Williams.

This National competition ends our season..... HOWEVER, 2007-08 Allstar Cheer Team Registration is about to begin. Open registration will be Monday April 2 nd 6:00-8:00 PM at the Toxic Gym, 199 S. E Street. The cost is $100 for Registration and will include one set of practice clothes.

Tryouts are not scary or intimidating... we divide students by age/grade and EVERYONE makes a team!!
