The Ventura HEAT basketball club played in the NJB Coastal Mayhem tournament July 28 th and 29 th. The competition was fierce but the HEAT showed they are a force and did not back down. In a twist, several divisions were combined meaning the 5 th and 6 th grade teams played in the same division while the 7 th and 8 th grade teams also played in the same division. Well, despite playing against older competition, the HEAT did not melt! The 6 th grade team won the championship, 4 th grade team took 2 nd place, the 5 th grade team took 4 th place, the 7 th grade team took 3 rd and the 8 th grade team took 2 nd. The games were close and the competition exciting all weekend. What a way for the 6 th grade team to end the year and prepare for moving up to the 7 th grade! They lost only one game to the Santa Barbara Midnight Ballers and then came back to beat them in the championship game by 11 points! The 7 th grade team really showed they would be feared next year. They went undefeated against the other 7 th grade teams and took both 8 th grade teams down to the wire, loosing by close margins at the very end. The HEAT will now take a break and come back in September with each team going up to the next grade level.
